    Hello from nowhere.

    Postby Stupidtool » 20 May 2009 19:56

I figured I should register if I'm gonna read around. Kinda like a vote in your favor I guess.

I picked up a copy (i.e. found) of Dune when I took a twelve hour train ride through the Western desert in India during an artist residency. I'm about to finish Chapterhouse and I am already lamenting the end of something I love.

My friends are so sick of hearing about Dune, I'm sure some of you can relate.

Anyway, "Hi" again. I'll be around.

    Welcome. Your Water is Ours.

I take it you have not read the NoDune.
(ie fanfic by keith j. hackerson & that other guy)

DO NOT. for the love of the little baby jesus, keep your mind pure & clean.
read here about how horrible and disgusting they are, but there is NO REASON
to read it yourself. SandChigger will do that for you. Trust Him. Hate Keith.
That's all you need to know .....

Welcome. The guys are mostly harmless around here. But I doubt that you could ever find another group of guys and gals who know more about Dune than the regulars on here. (myself not included in that)

I hope you will like it here. And I hope that we get to know more about you. Take a seat, hang on tight, and enjoy the ride. There are many here who can answer any questions you might have about the Universe that is Dune.

Yea, forget that new stuff, unless you enjoy finding reason to bash yourself in the forehead with thick books.

Achlan wasachlan. (One day that should be set to the music for "Wilkommen" from Cabaret, no?)

    Welcome. :)
I have heard of only one mistake that doesn’t have an explanation for a careful reader...with an open mind. (And, no, I’m not going to tell you what it is!) —KJA

I don't like every writer's style; for instance, I have never been able to get through Ursula LeGuin, China Mieville, or Iain Banks, all of whom are critical darlings. —KJA

I...had written a bunch of Star Wars and X-Files books...that proved not just that I'm a hack, but that I could write in somebody else's universe... —KJA

Welcome, and fear not, there are plenty of other good FH books. Just expect no sympathy nor quarter for the BH/KJA "Dune" fanfictions.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

Welcome, I felt the same way at the end of Chapterhouse - listen to those who warn of the new "dune" authors though... they are terrible beyond description. Like someone said though, there is plenty of great FH writing out there for you still.
