Hallo from Germany...

Hallo everybody.

I was searching for a quote a few days ago (the "the difference between a good leader and a poor leader") and stumbled across this forum. I used to follow a dune related newsgroup a few years ago, but haven't really followed any on-line discussion for a long time.

I first read Dune back when the film came out. The film caught my imagination, when I was at college and I went out and started reading the books. Since then, I have re-read them a dozen times.

I moved to Germany and learnt German and I am now re-reading the series in German! I'm now on the last book in German.

I haven't gotten around to reading any of the new books yet (Corinnos, Butler's Jihad etc.).

Welcome. Glad you found us! :D

Where are you originally from, or where did you live before Germany, if that's not prying? :)

(How are the German translations of the originals?)

I come originally from southern England. I started reading Dune when I was at college in Crawley. I worked for over 15 years in Southampton, before moving to Germany - I spent 5 years outside of Munich, but met my life partner at the end of 2007 and now live and work in the north, near Osnabrück (a lot of UK military personnel will know the area, they had a large base here until last year).

Pretty good, although some terms vary between the books. It is very interesting to read it again, but hard going at times (especially DM, although I always found the first third of that hard going in English as well...).

Trying to get my girlfriend interested, she has read the first book, but found she needed to "think", so is waiting until she has more time to concentrate on the series. ;)

Gutten tag! :D

I was posted in Germany for a little while in the Army, what part are you in?

The new books are officially bad fan fiction.

:puke:

Grüß Euch!

I've updated my profile, a bit... I'm in a small town just outside of Osnabrück.

No, at least I haven't spotted any intro, I just have the latest paperbacks in German, from Heyne Verlag.
