Hey all I am a newly registered member of Jacurutu...I have admired the site and am a nut for writings by FH....i even named my daughter Irulan.
i am now getting into FH's other writings and books. Just got done with Destination Void: best last line ever for a book.

Now for the sucking up to one of the moderators; Freakzilla.

Way to demonstrate to other geeks on the net the level of knowledge of FH fans on Tor.com. If you didnt get to the site there was an article on how Dune should be appealing to fantasy readers and in the replies section freak kept it real for the others on the actual abilities of Guild Navigators in relation to space travel.
I was duely impressed and said i gotta join jacurutu today.

i am happy to be here and look forward to great discussions and fun as well. keep an eye out for pics

You named your daughter Irulan? I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

I want to name a son Holden, for The Catcher in the Rye. No other character in a book has stood out enough for me to consider their name.

Pretty sure its an epithet from Irish folklore. I'll bet that FH used it in The White Plague.

Oh, and Helloooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Hardcore, man. Hardcore.

I tried to get my wife to agree to a Dune name three times, no dice.

That's why He is The Master.

I hope I didn't come off too harsh in my comment, Dune does have many fantasy elements and I should have given him that.
i am happy to be here and look forward to great discussions and fun as well.
I'm happy you found us.

A word of warning; membership here will likely get you on the ban list at dunenovels.com.

Yeah people in my and my wife's fam and my fam were like Irulan, "i guess it sounds nice rhymes with the last name too", now they love it. She received alot of princess stuff so its funny that a bunch of Pakistani people naturally called her Princess Irulan to which i got a chuckle out of. The good thing about the name is: cant be shortened, cant be americanized no offense, and fairly certain she wont run into other irulan's .
If i have a boy next Usul is at the top of the list.

I give presentations all the time ..and i use so much FH stuff its not even funny. Yesterday i gave a talk and used When strangers meet great allowances should be made for differences in training and custom.

I have never taken notes so comprehensively before from novels but FH was on point in his analysis, of government politics and religion. and he was quite the scientific visionary, talk about prescience.

wait till you peeps see my Dune Tat. should have some pics up soon . I also found every out of print F novel at a local bookstore including national Lampoon's DOON novel. 15 in all great stuff for $40

yeah Freak i fgured that i would not be welcome at dunenovels.com ...the need to read the aforemntioned quote in this reply

thanks again for the warm welcome

Welcome Gombeen!

Hmm, I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I'm pretty sure Frank called the character Irulan because it is an anagram for Urinal... Ghanima even makes fun of her name in CoD, calling her "Ruinal" which isn't even a proper word, but to me he is hinting at "Urinal."

Anyway, I'd probably name a girl Ghanima if I ever had an awesome-enough wife to agree to such a thing. Alia is a pretty common name, but I detest the Alliyah spelling. No way I'd name my kid after some dead R&B singer, unless it was Isaac Hayes. There's a chain of girly-accessories stores called "Alia" up here.

way to go DI, now he's gonna be calling his kid Urinal in his head :P

yeah i'd either go with Ghanima or Chani possibly... both awesome names.
I want to name a son Ender :)
I wouldn't name a girl Ghanima or Ghani personally, she'd just end up being called Grandma or Granny all her life, plus it's not a very feminine name. It's a cool name, I just don't think it's one the kid would appreciate having.
