'Lo

Post by Farren »

'Lo, there, peoples.

I'm new to these forums, though I've heard of them from other sites. (Mostly bad things from the Dune Novels forums...), and finally decided to join to see for myself if you guys really are the three-headed firebreathing monsters they paint you to be.

As for info about me - I've read all the dune books, including the prequels and sequels and Paul of Dune. I like the originals by Frank Herbert better, but I still read the newer ones.

I am a furry and will be open about that fact to anyone who asks.

I draw and do pixel art, and I do take commisions on occasion. Right now I'm on break from commissions while I attempt to meet the demands of the leader of the rp guild I'm a part of. For anyone who may want to see my art, it's posted at http://mercyful-fate.deviantart.com

I spend most of my time playing the online game Furcadia ( downloadable at www.furcadia.com ) under the sn Farren Dustfur. The guild I'm in is furcadia based, and much of my pixel art is designed for use in-game on furcadia.

Anyways, nice to meet you people, and I hope yer all not as bad as I've been told you are.

Welcome!

Don't worry, as long as you can make rational arguments you'll be fine.

Just keep your hands and feet away from their mouths and try not to make sudden movements.

Welcome Farren! We've spoken many times at DN, my name there being Drunken Duncan.

Hmm, I've never understood the appeal of all that cute furry anime stuff, but you seem to be good at it, so all the power to ya...

Welcome, twice welcome. The only person you should beware is SandChigger, he's the fire breathing dragon that lives at the tallest mountain and ocasionally scorches peoples asses. But other than that you'll be fine :P

Little Fuzzy is about a race of cute little fuzzy beings on a world with lots of natural resources. The big corps move in to exploit them, and a group of protesters sue them to protect the little creatures. The book is essentially a courtroom trial, so Im reading it for the Law and SF blog. Its actually pretty good though. Piper wrote a lot of good stuff, including a pretty decent story about linguistics that I have mentioned to you before called Omnilingual. I think you would like it.

I don't think I know what a 'preek' is O_o

'Cunning linquist' hurrhurr *dorklaugh* (sorry, I had to ;; )

Aside from that, thanks fer the welcomes, people :D You all seem nicer than the people at dune novels make you out to be. In a way it's like meeting a mythological figure. I hear all these things about you people over here, then I come here and meet you in person. It's almost scary.

So people know, I'm usually quiet - more a reader than a poster, but if there is a topic or something I feel I have something to contribute to, then I'll randomly pop up and scare people with my insanity (I do it on Furc all the time).

I'm not sure how good I am at upholding arguments (I think someone mentioned that... my brain is fried from too much working. I REALLY need a break D: ), but I've been able to hold my own in a religious debate before (I can even show an example if anyone is interested).

Also, sorry for taking somethin like 2 days to return to reply. I was with my gf all day yesterday, and today was spent mopping up catpoo/pee (oh joy).

Now I am off once again, probably to collapse exhaustedly into my pea soup.

Furrys are members of a deep, dark subgenre of SF. The stories all are about races of cute, bipedal little creatures that often have features reminiscent of other animals, like cats or bears, for example.

Here is one example of a typical story.

Here is another.

The fans are pretty into it. They go to conventions and dress up like slutty cat-people and things like that, and they have their own websites and forums and stuff. Its kind of creepy if you ask me, but those fans seem die hard (just check out the lifestyles section of that forum). "Wearing a tail in public?"

I think a repeat of that just ran the other night. I was surfing on past and heard someone say something about fuzzys. I had the wherewithall to think "what the huh?" before I found something else to watch.
