I have never read any Harry Potter books, but still, that one went right over my head. I remember some talk at the time where people thought it deserved because it brought so many readers to the genres.

John C. Wright is supposed to have a winner with his YA fantasy stuff. I personally thought his SF was way, way too complicated, but I liked his short story about the royal court in space. Think it was called Guest Law or something like that.
It is the Uglies series. Genetic modification and it may be a different book but he did a take on vampires that was science fiction.

I need a short synopsis of what's going on here.
This is what I've come up with:
The short story is: KJA is a Star Wars comic book hack. Brian is
essentially brain dead and has little input other than to sign the
HLP checks. Frank's Dune7 notes either don't exist or KJA didn't
use them at all. Byron Merritt (aka boardadmin) is an asshole,
who's dad married Frank's daughter. (Frank didn't like Byron, either)
What vital points have I missed or am unaware of ?
................ I exist only to amuse myself ................

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.

KJA is a hack period, don't insult the good comic book writers by lumping that piece of shit with them.

That's it. Uglies. I might get around to those someday.

Anda re you talking about The Empire Risen series? There are two books in that one and I have read the first half of book number one. Good stuff, but it was about undead, but I dont remember vampires. Maybe psychic vampires, not blood drinkers, but there were a resurrected family of immortals that ran the empire, and the daughter of one of them was captured by a nanotech wielding army in the beginning of one book.

right, right, raping Frank's Legacy for profit & semi-fame. 'Kay.

And the whole "Masterpiece of American Literature" thing.

I just need a short paragraph that hits all the high points.

I know. I was just going to say that if that's how they described it on the cover, I would immediately lump it into my "Midget Porn" category.

(= I would only consider watching/reading it AFTER the last trump on Judgement Day had sounded. ;) )

You read some incredible (and I mean unbelievable) stuff.

You know, I only read the first third or half of the first book or so, but I kind of liked it. It actually reminded me of Dune, only with high tech. I think I said a long time ago over on DN when we were debating to to replace KJA with after the revolution that I thought this guy, Westerfeld, could handle a Dune story pretty well.

Westerfields' vampire series starts with Peeps, heard good things about it, haven't read the Empire Risen books. Look Interesting.

Could he have meant "Kral..." for Kralizec? Probably. Perhpas the typhoon struggle is spelled Krazilec over at DN.

OK. So Merritt is saying the New Movie is Kralizec? The Typhoon Struggle at the End of the Universe ?

I'm still looking for that SMALL MOTE of sanity, decency and rationality
in Bryon Merritt that shows he KNOWS what's going on, and it's tearing
at his soul.

Most days I think that it is, and curse his name and damn him to hell.

Other days, I think he could save the whole thing, if he had balls enough to do it.

Which brings me all the way back around, because he's never demonstrated any backbone.

I always have to think, is it Krazilec or Kralizec? He obviously didn't bother to check.

Yeah, he's just commenting on the fact that most of us are pissed that Source of All Shit Kevin J. Anderson is involved with the new movie.

I wouldn't read anything more into it. Like he has inside knowledge that they're going to subliminally insert Norma into every scene.

from "The Landsraad Interview" // 11 July 2002 :

In a forward to House Atreides, Brian Herbert mentions that he will use Frank Herbert’s notes to someday write a Dune 7 novel, thereby completing the storyline of Chapterhouse: Dune. Will you be involved in that project and can you share any details?

I'll definitely be writing it with him -- that was the project that originally made me contact Brian. We have the outline for the Grand Finale and how it wraps up all the storylines, so we are laying the basis for much of it in our prequels. However, the Grand Finale should really be the last one...why go back and fill in a few more holes after we write THE END?

Not to mention why write two trilogies of unnecessary prequels (not even necessary with their mangling of FH's intentions in their sequels)?

Is there any word given to their gap-filling? Inter-quel?

Yes. Paul was the optimistic hero at the end of Dune and in Dune Messiah he's become a dark tyrant. The question they try to and fail to answer is: "How Paul became so dark?"

Morons.

Anyone with some reading comprehension skills would have realized that Paul was never really an "optimistic" character, having always reminding himself that he has a terrible purpose and that even as the story enters into its finale Paul realizes that even without him as a person that the jihad would continue in his name.

I'll say it again even though it doesn't need repeating: they're morons.

And their moron readers accept everything they say at face value.

Paul was an optimistic hero at the end of Dune. Then a dark tyrant by Messiah.

Kevin has written it. So they believe.

Oh, I'm sorry, the correct answer was "Money", kids; we were looking for "Money" ....
