Yeah, I don't remember that one too and I'm a big fan of trashing the Bible.

HG Wells wrote a great story about just that.

Technically, couldn't the atmoshpere be considered part of the Earth?

Actually, the Bible says that God stopped the Sun. But that's a whole nuther story ...

Jeez, are y'all suddenly a bunch of Preeqs, that things have to be explained to you step by step.

"Good Book" says God stopped the sun, as HBJ just pointed out. In its daily course across the sky. So the Jews could have more time that day to beat up on another bunch of people who did nothing wrong besides get in their way.

Since we all know the Sun never did go around the Earth, for the Bible account to be true, the Earth would have had to have stopped rotating.

Got it?

And sure, if God could stop the Earth rotating, he could stop the atmosphere and oceans as well, all while keep the Earth travelling in its normal orbit and not suddenly plunging into the Sun (it's our inertia and angular momentum what keeps us from doing so normally) or flying off into space....

My, didn't the world used to be simpler. ;)

I'm gonna argue with you here.
You're retconning the Bible. In that orginal work, the Sun most certainly
went around the Earth. You're adding ideas that did not even exist for
another thousand years. The original work said the Sun STOPPED IN
IT'S TRACKS, and by G-d, that's all I'll ever believe.

So you and your "friends" can write or re-write WHATEVER you want,
I AIN'T BUYIN' IT !

bet you got a prequel for Genesis, too, doncha smart guy .....

But SC, didn't you know that with Gawd, all things are possible? Kinda like the infamous "Frank Herbert notes"; they are everything and they are nothing :)

Well that's one of the reasons I found this so amusing. You either have to believe in gawd or you don't, because the dues ex machina is so great it pretty much demands an all or nothing approach. Why worry about the silliness of the pebbles when the landslide is even more ludicrous? :)

Plus, it was such an off-the-wall observation about the bible, I couldn't help but laugh. Skeptics talk about the oft repeated scientific problems or the moral problems (Earth made in six days, speed of light, slavery, racism, etc) but I've never seen someone object to the bible because of inertia :)

I think Yahweh switched things right around the time of Copernicus...or therebouts. That way we do not know his true ways.

What y'all don't seem to understand is that He can reach out with His Noodley Appendage and skew test results and observations to make things seem any way He wants.

Imagine someone saying that with twenty-oh-nine just around the corner!

Only the books written by Frank Herbert are canon.

#1 Hack has blawgged:
Stephen Youll has already sent us the cover image and -- as usual -- it's a real nut-grabber. We'll show it off here as soon as it's ready.
(OK, I added "nut-" there, but you know that's what he's thinking.)

I'm hoping this cover illustration will be something like the one for Sandworms and provide a hint as to that "dark thing" Jessica does that the two braintrusts (or is it really just one) have intimated will figure prominently in Jessica of Dune.

(The covers for Hunters and Paul of Dune were fairly boring in the sense that they didn't really give us anything to chew on. ;) )

Sole Man

on the cover to JESSICA OF DUNE

Post by Sole Man »

I like Youll's covers, I think he does a great Job. But the only DUNE ones I like invovle worms.(Even the SNADWORMS cover)

The only logical way to go is have Jessica completely naked, taking it up the ass from Gurney, Leto Chani or Paul himself.

After the sales of POOL OF DUNG, anything else would be insanity. (Then again we are talking about KJA here...)
