Made up words....

Post by sparafucile »

Have a look at this webcomic update: http://www.xkcd.com/483 .

I haven't read a single prequel and can't remember anything specific from the sequels. But the graph seems to indicate that the new Dune books have a ton of made up words.

 I just handed in an essay with a made up word. I felt that the word needed to exist, and now it does. Can't wait to see if my teacher/prof (what do you call them in college?) calls me on it or if it looks right and he misses it completely.

What's the word?

Well, I'm not so sure it's made up now because I just googled it and google didn't correct my spelling, but it was not in Microsoft Word's dictionary, or the hard copy dictionary I have around.

The word is positivity. I thought that since negativity is a word, positivity should be one too.

Now I'm dissapointed that my word probably isn't made up... :( I'm going to have to try harder at this!

Dissimilitude is one i thought i made up. I even got the definition wrong, I was looking for word describing how things are have a reciprocal relationship to one another. It was a paper describing the 'dissimilarity of Darth Vader and Dorian Grey.

Sorry, Sloey, but I attended their one and only ever show in Columbus in '81.

The opening band was Phil Dirt and the Dozers. :D

Me too!

My friend's brother some years ago randomly made up a list of band names, though I wouldn't say they're cleve, more like... just that: random.

My favorite by far and to this date was 'Vomit, the Perfect Buffalo'

Cracks me up every time

(Love it. The ambiguity...is the first word a noun, the name of the perfect buffalo? Or is it an imperative verb, commanding an act of projectile creation? Sublime! :D )

I'm confused, I thought QTF meant "go get a quote to prove you're telling the truth"

actually i just verified on urban dictionary
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=qft
1. Used on internet forums when quoting someone with similar views as yours.
2. Generaly used on internet forumafter quoting someone to make sure they cannot go back and change what they've already posted. Sometimes used to express you agree with the opinion. "QFT, brutha." is different from "QFT you fucking bitch!"
Now I know. Thanks.
