How come in CoD DukeLeto's bones remain in the rocky shrine?

Post by cmsahe »

I've just posted this question in the DN forum: "How come in CoD Duke Leto's bones remain in the rocky shrine?": (A Thing of Eternity &
Ampoliros talked about this in The Paul of Dune thread)

From Children of Dune:
"This rocky shrine to the skull of a ruler grants no prayers. It has become the grave of lamentations. Only the wind hears the voice of this place. The cries of night creatures and the passing wonder of two moons, all say his day has ended. No more supplicants come. The visitors have gone from the feast. How bare the pathway down this mountain.
-Lines at the Shrine of an Atreides Duke, Anon

Only the books written by Frank Herbert are canon.

I'm not really up to date on the atrocity that is Paul of Dune. Have these bones moved out of the shrine?

No. They've been encased in a monstrosity of Bauwaus architecture: a gigantic stone pyramid.

There's a scene which shows that Paul just built the shrine, which is obviously incorrect, having been built much earlier (obvious mistake, I can't believe even they got that one wrong). Byron's lame excuse is that this is a newer "better" shrine - the first one was just a pile of rocks while this is a nice pyramid. He failed to remember that 2 books later - it's still just a pile of rocks.

Irulan of Dune will show you how after an attack, Paul ordered to put his father skull in the same place, in the same way as before....or maybe there are 2 shrines this (PoD) one with the real skull, and the original one with fake bones...you know, plans within plans within plans :P :P
