ATTN: Byron RE: PoD Synopsis on Amazon

Post by SandChigger »

So, just out of curiosity, who wrote this synopsis on Amazon?
Product Description

Frank Herbert's Dune ended with Paul Muad’Dib in control of the planet Dune. Herbert’s next Dune book, Dune Messiah, picked up the story several years later after Paul’s armies had conquered the galaxy. But what happened between Dune and Dune Messiah? How did Paul create his empire and become the Messiah? Following in the footsteps of Frank Herbert, New York Times bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are answering these questions in Paul of Dune.

The Muad’Dib’s jihad is in full swing. His warrior legions march from victory to victory. But beneath the joy of victory there are dangerous undercurrents. Paul, like nearly every great conqueror, has enemies--those who would betray him to steal the awesome power he commands. . . .

And Paul himself begins to have doubts: Is the jihad getting out of his control? Has he created anarchy? Has he been betrayed by those he loves and trusts the most? And most of all, he wonders: Am I going mad?

Paul of Dune is a novel everyone will want to read and no one will be able to forget.
It almost reads like something by Kevin's biggest fan, Harriet Klausner. That bit in red is not by a native speaker of English, though. (You've no doubt read the rumors that Harriet is actually a sweatshop full of HongKongese writers. HK...get it?)

Was it, maybe, written by Brian? :lol:

(Anyway, please leave it up as is. It kinda makes a strong point for our side this way! ;) )

Harriet, stuck in a Hong Kong SF reading sweat shop, has to pump out reviews to stay alive.

Like her associates in the massage business, clients pay extra for a "happy ending".

My favorite remains her review of Brian's The Web and Stars (or something like that) where she suddenly starts ranting in the last paragraph (her reviews aways have exactly three paragraphs) about the Neocons and the war in Iraq.

Totally random. And ungrammatical. :D

That specific slave-reviewer got 20 lashes, he won't be doing it again.
In memory of Perach, who suffered and died needlessly.

I wish I could have been with you that one last time.

Q: It's easy to see why those who conspire against Muad'dib use your Analysis of
History as their rallying argument!
A: I'll not persuade you; I know that. But the argument of the conspiracy came
before my Analysis. Twelve years of Muad'dib's Jihad created the argument.
That's what united the ancient power groups and ignited the conspiracy against
Muad'dib.

Maybe it's not the reviewer's fault and BH/KJA actually refer to him as "The Muad' Dib" in the interquels.

Actually, I heard that KJA has people refer to him as "The Kevin," so maybe that's where it comes from.

IIRC Paul knew at the end of Dune that the jihad would be barbaric, and so did the BG. In DM, Paul expresses regret for the jihad, nothing more. He was too controlled/consumed by the oracle's visions since he did the water of life thing.

Bronso's heresy was to question the holiness of what Paul had created, and any "holy" regret.

Didn't recall his name myself, but the quoted text is indeed from that, so yea.

Paul knew the jihad was inevitable(sp?) since long before the end of Dune.
He knew it was coming from around the time of the Harkonnen invasion, in that still-tent scene with Jessica, IIRC.

It is Paul's jihad- he started, nurtured and directed it. Any regrets afterwards are only regrets, they can't change the facts.

I'm getting a picture of Paul singing at a karaoke bar in the end to DM:
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.

Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way
Bring it home Muad'Dib!

The Jihad is "in full swing"? Really? "In full swing"? Well, I'm glad the Fremen seem to be enjoying themselves.

This is the kind of inappropriate phrasing that I'm stumbling over in Hunters at the moment. Looks to me like KJA might have written this synopsis.

Ok how can it be a review, if, word for word, the exact same thing is here

http://www.dunenovels.com/books/paul.html

It sounds more like whats on the back cover of the book itself that a review.

Havent looked to see what the date of review is but seems the above link would have been up before the review was posted on amazon.

Confused,
Trang

I'm sure they're glad for it too.

They were pretty much enjoying themselves, you know.

You're right, Trang, that is the same text. D'uh. (Shows how much attention I'm paying to the features of the official site besides the blog and BBS, huh? :( )

I think someone has already mentioned this, but have you notice the wording on the front page:
PAUL OF DUNE, the direct sequel to the classic DUNE and the first novel in the Heroes of Dune Trilogy, is due in stores on September 16, 2008.
So after this Pail of Dung will be the sequel to Dune, not Dune Messiah. :roll:
