Yeah... it can. It can go backward and forward. The wormhole needs to cross the path of a solar flare somewhere in the galaxy for it to transport someone to another time. This actually became a plot point of several episodes and in the DVD film, Stargate: Continuum, the last Goa'uld System Lord, Ba'al, actually designed a machine that allowed him to control this phenomena.

After reading some of these posts, I suggest Jacurutu should write a book with Great Stools of Dune as the title. It could involve the worms defecating, well, spice-saturated stools across the geography of Arrakis after the conventional method of producing spice (dried exploded sandtrout) has become nonexistant.

Now how's that for a terrible idea for a followup Dune book?!
