Thank you Kevin! Thank you for fixing Dune! I always suspected Paul couldn't have been born on Caladan. And it was a little bit strange that the son of a duke never left his homeworld. And Jessica? Why on earth would he sent his men to buy that woman? Of course she was forced on to him. And don't even mention the Baron's obesity. No one gets that fat by just eating all the time, right? Oh, and it's obvious Gurney can take care of himself. Do you really think he needed some Duke to rescue him from the Harkonnen? Of course not.

No, don't blame KJA. He did what needed to be done.
You forgot the smilie.

naw, I'll agree with that, and add that Keith simplified the over-wrought, philosophically complicated
out-of-control style Frank had, which often slowed down the action-adventure pace Dune is more
suited for; he slimmed down the bloated science aspects as well, making for a much breezier and
fun read .... Frank always acted like he was trying to teach somebody something - Keith just
wants to entertain us, and for that, I thank him .....

but .... Keith (thus far) has left out an important segment of the story :
Young Atreides: The Toddler Years Book One: Gom Jabbar Binky (of Dune)

Yes, I agree, it is the worst of the series; however, the real problem is that there are two more books in this series left. So don't worry, the worst is yet to come. Just look at the trajectory.
Anything Dune not written by Frank Herbert is simply Fan Fiction.

Is the Leto book really the last one? Or just the last one of the 'Heroes' series?
Because I think they should start a new series: The Ghola of Dune series:

Duncan 1: Duncan's deskjob and other stories
Duncan 2: The Wrath of the God-Emperor.
Duncan 3: Duncan's Dynasty
Duncan 4: Duncan's pet Sandtrout goes missing
Duncan 5: Leto and Duncan go to the zoo
Duncan 6: Duncan's Demise
Duncan 7: Children of Duncan
Duncan 8: Duncan Messiah. (Finally the explanation why Duncan became the UKH the fans have been waiting for)
Duncan 9: Road to the Ultimate Kwisatz Haderach. The complete guide to the deaths of Duncan with all the juicy details.
Duncan 10: Appendices: Philosophical conversations Duncan and Leto II had about how to scratch your a$$ as a worm.

Should give Brian lots of opportunity for gore and torture-scenes.

I had almost forgotton all the damage sandworms had done to my mind, until reading reminders here. Duncan is Deus Ex Machina and Stunt Penis Porno King, along with the use of the word ghola more times in 750+pages than should have been allowed. They should have been forced to have Ghola Branded to their foreheads for that. The repetative nonsense, retelling what happened in the previous chapter was half of the next chapter... :happy-bouncyredfire: :happy-bouncyredfire:

I stand by my posts from the past, POD is literally the worst book I have ever read and I am still scared by the little girl sitting watching the fenrings having sex... Just plain shit.

All the stuff with little Marie was sick. And she loved kicking Thallo (the KH obsessed with self-mutilatation) on the shins. He liked it.
Yet another example of Brian Herbert's 'twisted mind'.

what a dick...

"I usually write the first draft of the Erasmus character. Kevin came up with a character -- a Thinking Machine who was researching what it was like to be human -- and I said let's add (the Nazi medical researcher) Dr Mengele to him and make him really dark and strange. Then Kevin laughed and said, 'Boy Brian, I don't know if I can write that, you'd better do it!' He wasn't saying that couldn't write it -- it was just a little dig that only my twisted mind could write that character. So we have a lot of fun. We riff off each other, like a musical performance."

Isn't the above quote actual proof of the fact that anyone who paid real money for Hunters or Sandworms was actively defrauded by Bobo and the Hack? They sold the book to us as "based on Frank Herbert's notes" and have now admitted (after cashing the pay cheque) that they made up one of the two central characters in the climax of the story? This also proves that the earlier "Machine Crusade" trilogy was a fraud, as without it the audience would have known nothing about their made up characters, yet it was supposedly "based on Frank's notes".

:liar:
I had no idea that there were this many Frank Herbert fans left alive, what with the head exploding horror that is the KJA/BH atrocity.

"Riff off each other" ... what a joke.

Memo to Bobo: it doesn't matter if you do that when neither party has an ounce of talent. You're just two hacks making each other even more hack-ish.

Don't worry. I'm a Pink Floyd fanboy. But you gotta admit, Ummagumma is a pretty wacky album.

a better comparison would be this Syd Barrett song
An incomprehensible meaningless string of words.

I stopped reading after I read half of "Paul of Dung," and I have to say that "Sandworms" was the worst book I think I've ever read. Or close to it.

Hunters/Sandworms is the worst I've read, certainly. Not just for the pointless plot threads, but for the increasing number of random, meaningless plot elements which made absolutely no sense at all, introduced in a vain attempt to try to inject some kind of drama and suspense. It was just horrifying.

Having said that, though, the more recent ones (which I haven't read) may be worse. At least, whenever anyone summarizes any of the plots or scenes from those novels, my reaction is simultaneously: "wtf?" and "please tell me you're kidding". Which they usually are not.

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

Ampoliros wrote:I'd argue that House Atredies was the worst because its success allowed them to rape the crap out of the series.
I'm not even going to bother to spell Atredies correctly there because that would suggest that it really belonged with Dune. Sure, the original contract was for a trilogy and there is no way they would let something with the name DUNE splayed all over the cover fail, but it was the first sin that allowed for them to continue.

Quality-wise Winds was the worst. Its amazing how each time they actually 1-up themselves for the worst book ever written. Irulan on the Throne of Dune will be beyond comprehension. I predict a rogue pirate highlander ghola cyborg love story that tempts Irulan to consider a second marriage. That and a huge war story of fail when The Separatists attack with their clone army. I'm sorry, I meant when Saddam attacks with his ghola army. Yeah I misspelled that on purpose. Shaddam will change his name after being influenced by the OM of an Old Earth Dictator.
If they can get Jar Jar Binks in Irulan to the Throne of Dune I'd buy the novel!
Only the books written by Frank Herbert are canon.
