Chapter 15

Post by Freakzilla »

Life cannot find reasons to sustain it, cannot be a source of decent mutual
regard, unless each of us resolves to breathe such qualities into it.

-Chenoeh: "Conversations with Leto II"

Stiros has been irritating High Priest Tuek. Stiros is probably too old to ever hope to be high priest but he has family he has high hopes for. He represents the "scientific community" who borders on heresy. Tuek worrys that Stiros may be able to arrange for Tuek to "accidentaly" be lost in the desert. Stiros is against the Bene Gesserit and especially doesn't like Odrade. God didn't even speak against the Bene Gesserit. Stiros objects to Sheeana's unrestricted education. Ater his conversation with Stiros is concluded, Tuek puts on his finest robes and goes to visit Sheeana at the rooftop garden where she's with Cania, Kipuna and a priest named Baldik. Even though Tuek's guards are stationed at the corners of the roof, he senses danger. Sheeana asks him about the Fish Speakers, Duncan Idaho and the Bene Gesserit. She tells him to bring her Reverend Mother Odrade. Tuek sweats how to do this. Everyone knows Kipuna is a spy for the Sisterhood so they ask her to relay the request. Just then a hunter-seeker trailing a long shigawire attacks, only Tuek, Cania and Sheeana escape into the stairs. They can hear a thopter outside and the sounds of combat. Tuek leads them down one flight and into the hallway where they are surrounded by Odrade and a group of Reverend Mothers. Odrade says the Ixians must be involved for the attackers to have that much shigawire. The Bene Gesserits on the roof take care of the treat and take them to Sheeana in her quarters where she's guarded by more Reverend Mothers. Stiros lies on the floor, his neck broken. Odrade says he was in on it with face dancers and the Ixians. Odrade gets the same feeling from Sheeana as she does from the Van Gogh in Taraza's workroom, Sheeana is her canvas. Odrade orders everyone out so she can be alone with Sheeana. She tells Sheeana they have been a long time waiting for her and will not allow the fool priests another opportunity to lose her.
