Chapter 42

Do you know what guerrillas often say? They claim that their rebellions are
invulnerable to economic warfare because they have no economy, that they are
parasitic on those they would overthrow. The fools merely fail to assess the
coin in which they must inevitably pay. The pattern is inexorable in its
degenerative failures. You see it repeated in the systems of slavery, of welfare
states, of caste-ridden religions, of socializing bureaucracies-in any system
which creates and maintains dependencies. Too long a parasite and you cannot
exist without a host.

-The Stolen Journals

While Leto and Siona lay in the dune shadows durring the day, Leto teaches her how to be Fremen and she probes for information about him. He tries to remind her of her fragile humanity but she continues to forget about sealing her stillsuit facemask. When night falls, she starts walking, instinctively she chooses the right direction and tries to stay on course by the stars. Still she does not seal her facemask, even when Leto asks her if she's thirsty. By morning she is obviously exhausted and cold. Leto makes a warm place for her to sleep on his front segment by pulling his face back into it's cowl. As she sleeps, Leto thinks she will likely die here.
